About Portrait Artist Saskia Palmer

Saskia Palmer Portrait ArtistI was born and grew up in Worcestershire. I studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Leicester Polytechnic and I have lived in Sheffield for 18 years where I am raising my 2 fantastic kids.

I am largely a portrait artist working mainly with oil and acrylic paints on canvas. I think that everyone should own at least one painted portrait of themselves and I aim to make this as accessible as possible by offering quality portraits at affordable prices. For information on commissioning a portrait please see the commissioning section of this site.

I also work in watercolours, gouache, chalk pastels and conté and I have displayed some of my other work in the gallery section. I love to draw from life but I am also inspired by the spontaneity and informality of photography. I recently exhibited a collection of paintings derived from instant Polaroid photographs framed in a mock Polaroid effect frame. I have even painted from mobile phone photos as I love the blurred edges and the movement, fun and intimacy they capture. I like to take very contemporary images and present them in a traditional way.
